File Extension Details
Adobe Audition Peak files (.pkf) are auxiliary files created by Adobe Audition, a professional audio editing and digital audio workstation (DAW) software. These files contain waveform display data, also known as peak data, for audio files opened within Audition. Instead of Audition having to recalculate and redraw the waveform every time an audio file is opened or zoomed into, the peak data is pre-calculated and stored in the .pkf file. This significantly speeds up the waveform display process, making editing and navigating large audio files much more efficient. The .pkf file is typically stored in the same directory as the corresponding audio file. If the .pkf file is missing or corrupted, Audition will regenerate it, but this will take time, especially for large audio files. These files are not intended to be opened directly by the user; they are used internally by Adobe Audition to improve performance. Deleting .pkf files will not harm the audio data itself, but it will result in Audition needing to regenerate the peak data the next time the audio file is opened.
